3rd Tuesday monthly meeting at St Columba's Church Hall. 10:00am. Talk by Jill Burton entitled 'The Howard de Walden Family at Chirk Castle 1911 to 1946 – the society years'. Jill Burton is a retired National Trust Education Officer for the properties of Errdig and Chirk Castle.

1st Tuesday monthly meeting at St Columba's Church Hall. 10:00am. Talk by Mark Flinn entitled 'Allegri to Zelenka'. Mark is from the North West Early Music Forum. His group of players will tell us a little about pre-classical music and play a variety of pieces on instruments from these early years.

5th Tuesday monthly meeting at St Columba's Church Hall. 10:00am. Talk by Professor Peter Gaunt on 'Chester's Role During the English Civil War 1642-46: Regional Capital or Red Herring'. Peter Gaunt is a Professor of Early Modern History at Chester University. His talk will give us an interesting perspective of Chester's role during the Civil War.

July 2018
3rd Tuesday monthly meeting at St Columba's Church Hall. 10:00am. Talk by Dr John Edmonson, entitled 'Georg D Ehret (1708 – 1770)'. Dr Edmonson worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh and then at the Liverpool Museum, where he was head of Science. He is a co-founder of the Cheshire Gardens Trust. His subject is Georg D Ehert, a botanical artist.

7th Tuesday monthly meeting at St Columba's Church Hall. 10:00am. Talk by Huw Jenkins entitled 'The Wild West Indies – one hell of a paradise'. Huw is a speaker on cruise ships and has been to the Caribbean many times. He promises his talk 'will be humorous with gossip, history and wildlife, but tinged with the misery of recent hurricanes'.

4th Tuesday monthly meeting at St Columba's Church Hall. 10:00am. Talk by Jenny Carley entitled 'Mysteries of the Trust'. There are many things about U3As that you may not know. Do you know where the concept originated, and why? Why don't we have a Head Office and why are we being asked to volunteer? All will be revealed and much more.

2nd Tuesday monthly meeting at St Columba's Church Hall. 10:00am. Talk by John Walley entitled 'The George Formby Story'. John has worked as an actor and entertainer for many years. His television work includes 'Halls of Fame' with Roy Hudd, 'Collectors Lot' with Sue Cook and 'Searching for George Formby' with Frank Skinner. He will give us an insight into the life of George Formby and illustrate his talk with several songs.

6th Tuesday monthly meeting at St Columba's Church Hall. 10:00am. Tim Carley's talk, entitled 'The Knowledge', will discuss how to restart civilisation after an unnamed disaster. A few survivors are left but no gas, electricity, water supply, or indeed any of the things we take for granted. Where do we start?

4th Tuesday monthly meeting at St Columba's Church Hall. 10:00am. Talk by Barry Humphries on 'The Great British Christmas'. His talk is an exploration of the origins of Christmas and its traditions, including a nostalgic look at Christmas in Great Britain in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
