Art & Craft Groups
Art Appreciation 1: This group enjoys looking and talking about art in all its forms, but we are not experts. Meets 3rd Tuesday in the month pm for two months out of three. Third month is usually an exhibition which is open to other U3A members not part of the group.
Contact: Barbara Wright (01244-349760)
Art Appreciation 2: This group doesn't try for history lessons but we do want to discuss art and artists and try to see how paintings fit into their historical context. We want to alternate monthly between a gallery visit and a discussion at the home of a group member. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (am).

Collecting: This group meets on the 2nd Monday of the month (pm). It is for people who are interested in collectables and antiques. Some members have collections, which they show to the group, and we also have themes, which we encourage members to research and to bring items to the meeting. Our subjects have included cameras, postcards, roman artefacts, Staffordshire figures, modern pottery, hatpins, spoons and stamps. Occasionally we visit local museums to look at their collections. The group would welcome new members and also visits from U3A members who have collections they would like to show us.

Crafts: We enjoy a variety of craft techniques. We use paper, card, fabric and many other items. Many techniques are demonstrated. Whilst at the meeting, members work on the craft of their choice. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month (am) at New Scene Youth Centre, Limewood Close, off Newton Lane, Chester CH2 2HH.

Film Appreciation 1 and 2: We meet every second Monday afternoon at 2:00pm in pleasant surroundings with comfortable seating. The films screened are wide ranging and reflect the interests of the group. They are usually followed by a discussion. Film 1 and 2 are separate groups that meet separately.

French Film Group: This group meets four or five times a year during the winter months on a Thursday at 7.30pm. As capacity is limited, there is usually a waiting list of those wishing to join.

Knitting: We are a friendly group of ladies who love to knit and natter. Some have knitted for years, others are beginners. We also include crochet. The more experienced are more than happy to share their skills. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays 1:30-4:00pm at Boughton Hall.

Needlecraft 1: Two informal friendly groups meet in Chester every 2nd and 4th Tuesday 10:00 am to 12 noon. We pursue "our own thing", be it tapestry with wool or finer work (either cross stitch or embroider), to stitch and talk and discuss the whys and wherefores with a pause for coffee.
Contact: Beryl Hunt (01244-349827)
Needlecraft 2: We are an off shoot of the original tapestry group and as such are still open to members who wish to join us. Two of our ladies are doing tapestry but it is not the only needlework. Some are doing cross stitch and at present one is lace knitting, so anything goes. As well as doing needlework we put the world to rights over coffee.

Painting 1: Members of this group are mainly watercolourists with some trying their hands at acrylics, pastel and pencil work. We meet at Hoole Community Centre on Tuesdays, 1.30 - 3.30 from September to April.
Contact: Margaret Wood (01244-382462)
Painting 2: Our group is for those who are prepared to share two hours without a tutor. We use mainly water colours but one of our members prefers oils and another drawing. There are more experienced members who are prepared to give advice when asked to do so. We meet on Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30pm.
