Language Groups
French Conversation: This is for members who can take part in discussions in French with only an occasional loss for an everyday word in general subjects. New potential members of the group are welcome to visit us to find out if they fit in. The group meets on alternate Thursdays (am).

French Conversation 2: This group, which is focussed on conversation, meets on first and third Thursdays 10:00-11:00am in the Library at Hoole Community Centre.

French Improvers: The group concentrates mainly on conversation and sets a topic for each session to work around, starting at a fairly simplistic level, gradually working up to more demanding material. Every Wednesday 2–3.30pm.

French Intermediate: The group usually prepare news, discuss current affairs, newspaper articles, films and books. At present we are using The Ultimate French Review and Practice. This is a fully comprehensive manual, published in the USA. It covers every aspect of French grammar and structure. We work our way through successive chapters and use the exercises as a further means of extending our vocabulary and improving our overall language skills. The group meets every Monday (am).

Further French: Members enjoy conversation about a variety of interests and topical news items from the French press. A reasonable grounding in the French language is required in order to be comfortable with this approach. We meet in members' houses, 2nd and 4th Tuesday mornings.

German Conversation: This group reads and translates German texts from magazines and/or books, uses word games and open discussions. A sufficient knowledge of German to participate in a simple conversation, so not suitable for beginners. We meet every Wednesday 10:00 - 12:00.

German Improvers: We are a small group (currently 6 members), who all have a basic knowledge of German but are very 'rusty'. We started as a self-teaching group, but now are fortunate in having the expertise of a native German speaker. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, 10:30-12:30, at Upton Village Hall.

Italian Beginners: This is a small group for those with little or no knowledge of the language. Our aim is to get to the stage where members can converse in simple terms and learn to love Italian. Meets every Thursday from 2-4pm.

Italian Improvers: This is a small group studying the Italian language beyond the beginner level. Our aim is to improve our fluency in speech and grammar. The group meets fortnightly on Mondays 2-4pm.

Spanish: A small group whose members have been learning Spanish for several years. All members are encouraged to contribute on subjects that are of interest to them. We welcome new members who feel that they would enjoy contributing and learning within the group. Thursdays 10.00-12.00.

Spanish for Holidays: This is a group studying Spanish primarily to use when on holiday. You must have a basic knowledge of the language, ie present tense verb conjugation. We study the restaurant, hotels, travel, family shopping. We take it in turns to take the class with whatever subject we find useful. Monday 10-12 in my house.

Spanish Improvers: The group meets on Monday afternoons from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in members' houses, currently in Blacon, Waverton, Tattenhall or Handbridge. Some of the members are attending classes in Spanish at night school and others have holidays in Spain.

Spanish Intermediate: Members of the group are at various levels but all understand basic vocabulary, verbs and grammar. It is a self help group using exercises from text books, recordings and conversation practice. The group is informal, friendly and meets weekly on Wednesdays 2-4pm.
